Cover design and illustration for an encyclopedic publication on Maya culture

Editorial design proposal for the cover of a fictional publication dedicated to Maya culture, developed as part of an academic assignment.

The project involved the creation of an original illustration and the development of the cover’s graphic composition. The artwork draws on a reinterpretation of Maya-inspired iconographic elements, combined with a simplified representation of the pyramid of Chichén Itzá as an architectural reference. The different motifs were synthesized and stylized to create an original graphic interpretation without reproducing any specific historical artifact.

The composition was structured using a 9 × 18 modular grid, complemented by central axes and compositional guides to organize the illustration, typography, and different cover elements within a balanced visual structure. The proposal also incorporated the institutional elements required by the assignment, including UOC identification.

As part of the final presentation, a 3D book mockup was developed in Blender, recreating the appearance of a classic hardcover encyclopedia. The 3D representation made it possible to translate the graphic proposal into a physical representation of the editorial object and showcase the final design applied to the book format.
